# Register a new domain

## Steps

1. Go to **Domains** (or the **Domains** service page) and use the **search** box.
2. Type the name you want. We'll show whether it's available and the **price in CAD**, plus suggestions.
3. Select the domain(s) you want and (optionally) toggle **domain privacy** to keep your contact details out of public WHOIS.
4. Add to cart and **check out** (see *Choose a plan and check out*).
5. After payment, the domain appears under **Domains**. If it's for a website, connect it next.

## After registering

- Manage it from **Domains → [your domain]**: auto-renew, privacy, nameservers, DNSSEC, forwarding, and the EPP/auth code.
- Point it at a website in **Websites → [site] → Domains**, or manage records under **DNS**.

## Troubleshooting

- **Name taken?** — try a different extension (.ca, .net) or a suggested alternative.
- **Typo after purchase?** — domains generally can't be renamed or refunded once registered; register the correct one.
