# Enable maintenance mode

Maintenance mode shows visitors a temporary message instead of a half-finished site.

## Steps

1. Go to **Websites → [site] → Maintenance**.
2. Turn **maintenance mode on** and, optionally, set a custom **message**.
3. Do your work, then turn it **off** to restore the live site.

## Troubleshooting

- **Still see the maintenance page after turning it off** — purge the cache and hard-refresh.
- **Need to keep working privately instead** — use a **staging site** so the live site stays up.
