# Turn on domain (WHOIS) privacy

Domain privacy replaces your name, address, email, and phone in public WHOIS with privacy-protected values, reducing spam and exposure.

## Steps

1. Open **Domains → [your domain] → Registration settings**.
2. Toggle **Domain privacy / WHOIS privacy** on.
3. Save. Public WHOIS updates shortly after.

You can also add privacy when first registering a domain, in the cart.

## Good to know

- Some country-code extensions (for example certain .ca registrant types) have their own WHOIS rules and may not support standard privacy.

## Troubleshooting

- **Toggle unavailable** — that extension may not support privacy; the page will note this.
- **Transferring out?** — you may need to temporarily disable privacy to receive transfer emails.
