# Change PHP version & limits

## Steps

1. Go to **Websites → [site] → PHP**.
2. Adjust:
   - **PHP version** — pick a supported version your app is compatible with.
   - **Memory limit** — raise if you hit "allowed memory size exhausted".
   - **Max execution time** — raise for long tasks like imports.
3. Save. Changes apply to your site shortly after.

## Tips

- Test PHP version upgrades on **staging** first — some plugins/themes lag behind.
- Only raise limits as needed; very high values can mask real problems.

## Troubleshooting

- **Site errors after a version change** — switch back to the previous PHP version and update your plugins/theme first.
- **Still hitting limits** — check for a runaway plugin; higher limits are a stopgap, not a fix.
